Tips on Receiving Wine via UPS

Earlier this year UPS changed how they deliver wine and we wanted to share the details with you. If you are on the Annual Tasting Program, you might have caught wind of this earlier.

The big change is that UPS may attempt delivery to your address just once. If they do not get an adult signature, they will leave a note and take it to a close-by “Access Point” (such as a UPS Store, CVS or Staples) where you can pick it up. Many of our patrons who are not at home during the day find this more convenient.
Loading UPSWe have a few suggestions to ensure smooth delivery:

  • Track your shipment so you know when to expect the delivery attempt. UPS emails you your tracking number(s) the day your order is shipped. Using the tracking number is the best way to keep an eye on your order.
  • If your order is redirected to an Access Point, please pick it up promptly. Sometimes the people at the Access Point will send it back to us if it isn’t retrieved after a few days.  We are billed for delivery charges when a package is returned and again when we have to re-ship it to you. We’ll pass a portion of those additional charges on to patrons. Avoiding reshipments is the best solution!
  • Shipping to a location (such as an office, a stay-at-home neighbor or a UPS Access Point) where someone is present during working hours is the most efficient way to receive our wine.

UPS Shipments

We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes and deeply appreciate your effort to receive your Hafner wine. If you have any thoughts or need help, please let us know. Quinn and Laura in our office are experts at navigating UPS and are happy to help you if needed. Just call us at 707-433-4606.

This is information that UPS provided us:

What does UPS mean with "nearby" UPS Access Point location?

  • UPS will aim for a 10–15-minute drive, max, from the customer's shipment address
    • This will be different for metro areas where the radius will be decreased to 0.25 miles
  • If one isn't available or is at capacity and cannot take on more packages, the package will continue to be reattempted until a location becomes available or it is "returned to sender" after the third delivery attempt

How long after the missed delivery attempt will the package be available for pick-up?

  • Some will be available on the same day, with the rest being available the next day.
The package should  be available for pick-up for the next 7 days

How is the recipient notified about the courtesy pick-up?

  • At the missed delivery attempt, the UPS driver will leave an InfoNotice on the door with details of where the package is being redirected to - name of the business and address will be provided
  • Tracking will also be updated accordingly
  • If you opted for any shipment notifications, those will be sent as well

What can the recipient expect at pick-up?

  • They can expect to be asked for their ID to show proof that they're 21+ years and that the address on their ID matches that of the original shipping label

What should they NOT expect?

  • The recipient shouldn't expect to pay any pick-up fees
  • This program doesn't include reroutes or shipping direct to UPS Access Points as other steps need to be taken to avoid pick-up fees

After a hold is executed, can the package still be intercepted?

  • The recipient can continue to proactively act on their packages using My Choice, if they choose

Again, thank you for your effort to receive your Hafner wine.
