Meet the Team - Efren

Name: Efren Carranza

Number of years at Hafner Vineyard: 7 months

Department/Role: I am part of the vineyard team and do a bit of everything. I’m the “newbie” to HV but I’ve been working in the vineyards of Sonoma County for over 30 years.
Efren Tying VinesWhat’s something most people don’t know about you? I really enjoy gardening. I especially like to grow tomatoes and chiles.

Where did you grow up? Guanajuato, Mexico

Favorite local restaurant: Taco Grande in Healdsburg

What’s your perfect weekend day look like? The perfect weekend is when I go with my family to Fort Bragg. It’s a town on the coast, and we do a lot of walking on the beach and outdoor activities.

How else do you spend your free time? I help my sons with their vintage trucks. We fix them and paint them. It’s really just a hobby.

Favorite Hafner wine (yes, just one!): Rosé! (He says without hesitation!)
Efren RoseWhat’s the best part of being part of the Hafner Vineyard team? How well we all work together. It’s a happy team that’s focused on working as a unit together.

What’s the most exciting time of the year at Hafner Vineyard? Harvest. It is the moment when you get to see the end result of a year’s hard work. It’s always exciting and brings pride.

What’s the best part of living in Sonoma County? The landscape, climate, vineyards. It’s just a beautiful place.

Personal motto or saying that you live by: Family first and always try to stay positive.
Efren FamilyFavorite day of the year: Thanksgiving because there’s lots of wine and food.

What’s a memory of when you started working at Hafner Vineyard? It was fun re-meeting David, the vineyard manager. I worked with Dave at another winery, but I had not seen him for 10 years. He looked almost the same except now he has a giant beard now! At first I thought “Could this be Dave?!”

What’s the craziest/funniest job you’ve done here? Planting is a fun (and funny!) job because you’re absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. I know that sounds strange, but it’s amusing because no matter how tough someone is, planting always gets you! It’s a humbling experience.
