Hafner Vineyard

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Annual Tasting Program?

It is our “wine club” and is the easiest and surest way for you to taste each of our four main wines.

We send you two bottles of the four vintages released annually, a total of eight bottles a year. Then you can taste the wine at home before buying it by the case. The four wines are:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon released in in its fifth year, every February;
  • Reserve Chardonnay in its third year, released in April;
  • Our main Chardonnay that is two years old, released in September;
  • Next Red, our Malbec-based blend, also in September at four years of age.

Each Tasting Package includes Winemaker’s Notes on that wine and tasting notes comparing previous vintages to the current one. To learn more, click here.

How do I sign up for the Annual Tasting Program?

To join the Annual Tasting Program, please click here.

A couple of notes:

  • It is often easier for patrons to receive the Tasting Packages at a work address since the wine must be signed for by an adult.
  • You can pay for the Program with VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit cards.
  • Your credit card is billed for all four Packages after the first one is shipped.
  • Do you have any special instructions? Just let us know. We can take care of any particular details, including multiple addresses, delayed shipments, and so forth.

Is your wine sold in any wine shops or stores?

Hafner wines are available exclusively from the winery or in leading California restaurants. We sell over 90% of our wine directly to people like yourself.

Selling direct to our patrons helps keep our prices lower than other wines of comparable high quality. It also allows us to provide more personal service.

How can I order your wines?

Go to Shop for prices on each wine by the case or bottle. Lower prices are the happy result of buying by the case.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is available in February, the Reserve Chardonnay and Rosé in April and the main Chardonnay and Next Red in September. Then there are wine gifts released for the Holidays in late October.

And throughout the year we have vertical collections, magnums, mixed cases and Wine Library selections.

Of course, you must be 21 years or older to purchase and receive wine.

Once I order Hafner wine, how long will it take to get it?

We ship most orders on Mondays by UPS and Federal Express to avoid having the wine spend a weekend in their warehouses. However, we can ship whenever, whatever, wherever you like. In California, your order will be delivered in 2-3 days. Shipments to other states will take about 2-5 business days, depending upon your distance from Alexander Valley.

We let you know by postcard when your wine will be shipped. That way you can alert us to hold your wine if you are going to be away. We can delay shipments to a date convenient to you if you let us know in advance. And we are happy to email tracking information on your shipments if you like. Please let us know.

Do you have a Tasting Room? Are you open to the public? May I visit?

We enjoy having patrons visit, but we do not have a tasting room. As a family winery with a very small staff, we are not open to the public except by advanced reservation. Go to Tour & Tasting Details for more information.

What states can you ship wine to? What are the charges for shipping?

We can ship wine to almost all states. And many of the “open” states have limits. The laws that govern the interstate shipping of wine are archaic, inconsistent and confusing. The reasons for the restrictions are historical, tax-related and competition-supported. We and most other small family wineries support efforts to resolve the blockage and give the wine consumer free access.

If you have questions about specific states, please email or call us (707-433-4606).

We haven’t raised our shipping charges in 20 years! For a case, they range from $7.00 in California to $40.00 by air to certain states.

What restaurants serve Hafner wines?

For a complete listing of these leading California restaurants go to Restaurants. The list is in a "printer friendly" version and we've provided addresses and phone numbers. Bon appetit!

How long can I hold your wines?

Under the right conditions our Chardonnays can be aged for four years after the vintage year printed on the label. For our Cabernets, at least ten years after the vintage date if carefully cellared. The key is storing your wine at a steady temperature (up to 60 degrees) in an area without a lot of light. For our comments on how previous vintages are tasting and aging, go to Our Wines, then select a certain variety and on the left there are previous vintages to read about.

I want to send someone a gift of your wine, how do I order?

Go to Shop for complete instructions on sending gifts of Hafner wine. Your friends, family, and colleagues will be grateful! If you have multiple gift orders, many patrons find it easier to email us the list, gift items and gift notes.

Does the company delivering my wine require an adult signature?

Yes. That’s why we suggest using a shipping address where an adult is available.

What if I miss a shipment and it is sent back to you?

Please give us a call and we’ll arrange to send you a replacement.

What are your business hours?

We are available by phone and email between 7am and 5pm Monday through Friday. The only exceptions are holidays.
