We do this together for you

We are fortunate to have a great team, many of whom have been with us for decades. Each of us knows the value of hard work and attention to detail. The fruits of our collective labor are what fill your glass and each of us is proud of those efforts.

Meet the team

what guides us

As a small family business, it is our family's values that set our direction.
Learned from the previous generation, passed on to the next, they are the compass guiding us every day in every way.
We are grateful that these values are in our DNA.

Treat others the way you want to be treated

This is a motto all of us live by. It's not about the bottom line; it's about doing the right thing. Whether searching for the perfect gift, solving a problem, finding the best price: our goal is to help - person to person. Those connections with patrons, some that span generations, are what matter most. We look forward to helping you.

leave it better than you found it

Backpacking in the Sierras as a family, we learned the importance of caring for the land and doing our part to protect it. This is a farming practice we take to heart and apply across our entire business from the land to the business to the team and to patrons.

Planning for future generations

We don't just plan for now or the end of the year.
We plan for generations ahead.
This business isn't just for us; it's for the next generation, and the generations to follow.

We are all in this together

Co-founder Mary Hafner made sure that every year, we had enough wine to help community organizations. She believed that as a business and family, we should help others. And that no matter how small the donation or volunteer time, when multiplied by many, we could make the world a better place.

We are pleased to support many California non-profits and those of our patrons across the country. We contribute to hundreds of organizations each year but unfortunately cannot fulfill all requests.

Committed to An Honest Value

Mary and Dick Hafner's families experienced The Depression, so when it came time to sell our wine, their son, Scott Hafner, designed a way to sell wine direct to people at home.

The reasons?

  1. Selling directly would enable us to offer a better value, eliminating markups implemented by distributors and retailers.
  2. It allowed us to represent our wines, instead of others.
  3. We could be in direct contact with our patrons to offer personal, dependable and immediate service.

Working directly with you and patrons

When we started selling wine in 1984, we chose to sell direct (95% to people at home and 5% to top California restaurants). We wanted to offer an honest value, be able to represent our family's wine ourselves and be in direct communication with the people who enjoy our wine.

The unexpected benefit is the generations of Hafner patron families who have served our wine in their homes and shared it with friends for decades. Coming to know our patrons has been a tremendous privilege.
