Meet the Team - Scott

Scott Hafner and Sophie Dog"Meet the Team" is our blog series that introduces each of the Hafner Vineyard team members. We answer a series of questions about ourselves and our time at Hafner Vineyard. My niece, Kate, has been after me for years to participate in her wonderful "Meet the Team" series that highlights each of us. Finally I succumbed. Teaser: my favorite day of the year is any day that I have a glass of wine with Dad.

Bay Area Wine Deliveries

Spencer DeliveringWhen we began selling wine in 1984, we decided to deliver case orders of wine ourselves to patrons in the Bay Area. Not only did this save us on shipping expenses but more importantly, we got to know our patrons well, and vice versa! In the beginning, I got to do deliveries, and now Spencer has taken the reins. When the pandemic first hit, we discussed our strategy for continuing to do deliveries. “What is best for our patrons? What do they need?” It was an easy two-word answer: “Wine”, “Safely!”

Holiday Video

Holidays at HafnerDuring the Holiday Season, it is “all hands on deck”! We are grateful to our patrons who are so generous with their Hafner wine. Thank YOU! To have some fun, Kate made a short film of our various roles during the Holiday Season. You will see that many hands are involved in getting your gifts from our small family winery here in Alexander Valley to the dinner tables of your friends, family or colleagues across the United States. Happy Holidays from all of us at Hafner Vineyard!

Yes! We did! We are honored that John and his wife are longtime patrons of Hafner Vineyard, as are their parents and their adult children. I took this opportunity to ask John a few questions about his career as a mystery writer and why Hafner made its way into certain scenes. Here's my interview with John.

Homage to Sommeliers

Los Angeles Restaurant KitchenLast week found me on my semi-annual trip to Los Angeles to work with wine directors and sommeliers. 3 days, 26 restaurants, 452 miles. What did I hear? Consistent praise about the quality of Hafner wine and appreciation for Parke’s winemaking philosophy which favors balance and finesse over power and punch. These wine buyers are scouting for wines that complement their chefs’ cuisine, rather than competing with it.  I also heard about the value Hafner wines offer. My favorite quote? “Hafner overdelivers quality for the price.”
